Mike Zampiceni

So You Want to Improvise?

Virtuoso accordionist, noted teacher, and clinician Michael Zampiceni will give his insights and recommendations about how to get started straying away from originally composed notes and revamping a piece or section of music with your own notes and rhythms, either as a rendition on the fly or as an arrangement you can develop for subsequent performance. Different types and styles of improvisation will be discussed, ranging from harmonic modifications to rhythmic alterations. A basic foundation of music theory is helpful for this workshop through at least an understanding of major and minor scales and 7th chords.
